Imagine yourself in a deluxe wilderness cabin nestled deep in the 2.3 million acre Misty Fjords National Monument. Accessible only by air, Humpback Lake is located 60 miles southwest of Ketchikan Alaska. In a glacier-carved basin, Humpback’s crystal blue waters curve in a six-mile sweep lined by towering cliffs plunging deep into the water line. Inhale the fresh mountain air as you focus on the splendid scenery of Humpback Mountain, peaking in front of you at 6,000 feet.
By arranging a floatplane ride, you can find yourself just one hour away from sitting next to your private waterfall.You can be guaranteed safety and service with Taquan Air. As a bonus, the flight to the Humpback Chalet will treat you to the most spectacular flightseeing tour of a lifetime! Once you arrive at the lake, you will see that it is 6 miles long. We suggest that you make arrangements for a boat motor and fuel ahead of time.
Inside the cabin you will find a propane stove for cooking, propane lights, running water, a full wilderness kitchen, paper products, a sleeping loft, and a wood stove for heat. Outside the cabin, you will find a large deck complete with propane heated hot tub and a sweeping 180 degree view of the lake. You will need to bring some supplies of your own and can consult our Lake Trip Planning List for our suggested items. If you would like to order your supplies in advance, local merchants can deliver items to your air carrier the day of departure.
The cabin contains the following items to use on your adventure:
- Cooking Stove, fuel and matches
- Wood, splitting maul and axe
- Lantern, mantels, and propane fuel
- Dishes, bowls, plates and cups
- Pot with lid, skillet, and pan for heating water
- Cooking utensils, silverware, knife, and can opener
- Dish towels, pot holders, dish soap and scrubber
- Life jackets/Floatation Devices
- Paper towels and toilet paper
- 2 skiffs with oars
- First Aid Kit & Flares
