a fiord, on a rippling creek, or at the shore of a mystical lake, for
a breathtaking experience. Start by choosing a remote location from
a wide variety of wilderness cabins where you can fish, hike, look for
wildlife or just simply play.
Wilderness Cabins
Taquan Air will fly you into one of the
many secluded cabins the USDA Forest Service has built and maintains.
A variety of secluded cabins, shelters, A-frames and Pan-Abodes can
accommodate 4-8 persons and cost approximately $25.00 - $45.00 per day.
For detailed information, maps, photographs, and bookings, proceed to
the cabin link when you visit the following website: www.fs.fed.us.
There are many private cabins around the Ketchikan area that are also
available. Consult our lake charter rates to see all of the options
available to you.
Private cabins are also available in addition
to the many public cabins. The Humpback Chalet is a
prime example and is one of the most beautiful cabins in Southeast Alaska.
This pristine hideaway is nestled against a waterfall and includes a
private lakeside hot tub. This is also the only privately owned cabin in Misty Fjords. Read more >

find other useful tips in planning your adventure.
Useful Tips
- Weather is unpredictable in Southeast Alaska. It
is recommended to bring rain gear and warm clothing that allow you to
layer.
- Each cabin is equipped by the USFS with tables, benches, plywood
bunks
(without mattresses and bedding), wood and/or oil heat stove (without
cooking gear), axe, broom, and outdoor sanitary facilities.
- Oil is not
provided for stoves.
- A gas cooking stove in your gear is recommended
as the wood/oil stoves may not provide sufficient heat for cooking.
- Wood
is provided, but it must be split. Bring a small axe or hatchet in case
the cabin axe is not available.
- Water is available from the lakes or
streams. Surface water used for drinking should be purified by boiling
for a minimum of 5 minutes.
- Insect repellent is highly recommended during
the summer months.
- Boats are furnished at most lake cabins.Oars are
provided, but an additional small 2-10 hp outboard motor can add to
your enjoyment.
- It is recommended to bring extra food and clothing in
the event that your stay is prolonged due to poor visibility or weather.
- There
is no communication without a portable satellite phone. They are available
for rent and information can be found through
Advanced Communications.
